I must say that one of, if not, the biggest form of enjoyment I get from being a car enthusiast is when I can share my love and excitement with other people. When someone smiles, laughs or just gets entertained by something I do involving cars it brings me massive joy. That’s why I love acceleration reaction videos.
Let it be a Hellcat, a Tesla (I don’t like Tesla videos as much because of the lack of sound) or any form of fast car I can’t help but want to do the same with as many people as I can. In fact, one of the key things I want from my next car is the ability to thrust the backs of my passengers into the seats. My question is, at what point does the acceleration provoke a good reaction from the average person.
My guess is around 5 second and under 0-60. What do you think?

Acceleration reaction with the Jetta: ....................

Damn that’s close to my Golfs! Just add more points.

A well-tuned VTEC engine should get a good reaction.
It would be like this:
*steps on accelerator*
*nothing happening*
*but then suddenly ZOOP*

Somewhere between 6 and 7 for people with average cars. 5 to 6 with higher-end cars. However, what really matters is the 0-40mph time, as that’s the most shocking experience for most people.

I’d say under 6 would scare most.

The noise is an important part of the reaction. I’ve got a big Dinan exhaust bolted to a V10 that is pretty quiet until you put your foot down flat and the sudden roar — especially in a tunnel — hoo boy does all conversation stop.

If they aren’t used to it, just about any hard acceleration will get them. I have a habit of doing second-gear pulls with new passengers in the WRX. It gets ‘em every time!

In second gear between 65 km/h and 110 km/h, my car makes a shocking amount of forwards progress. Merging with a passenger is usually fun.

I wasn’t expecting any other answer but this one from you.

I agree 100%. The initial launch is what makes the biggest “oh shit” factor.

Under 6 would scare plenty.

Thats why I don’t like Tesla videos as much. Noise can make a car “feel” much faster than it is.
E60 M5 is best M5.

Torque is just great.

I like to think I’d be cool with it but I’d probably loose it.

You have to know the car extremely well.

Yup, although a little extra power would be nice. Maybe I could snag a dual exhaust ECU next time the local junkyard does a 50% off sale.

Yeah. I’d rather it be my car than someone elses.

*zoop*

Driving an auto is boring, but the HEMIWagon (with 3.06 gears, a big difference from the 2.82 stockers), is a fucking hoot to do pulls from 35-65 merging on the highway.
Ill admit that the fun is linear even beyond that, even if the acceleration isnt quite as drastic.

How much of a change would that bring?

I came to the realization that doing pulls is going to be a MUCH more common enjoyment of my car than say, a great mountain road.

An extra 20 crank horsepower and an extra 10 lb-ft at the crank. For $27 plus tax, I’d say it’s worth it.

Thats a damn great deal.

And it will still run on regular gas.

I don’t think premium will bring any benefit.

Premium’s a lot more expensive than regular, so that’s why I like this idea.

My 0-60 in 4.6 usually results in an angry “FUCK YOU” from my wife instead of that girl’s reaction. People handle acceleration differently I guess. Although it is odd, when we are riding she is always flooring it.

Gas prices in Mexico are ridiculous as well...

Hey a reaction is a reaction.
![]() 01/22/2017 at 23:30 |

With the current conversion rate, I’m paying around 19.2 pesos a litre for regular gas. Canada, eh.

I am paying about the same for premium.

I usually only get reactions on Fast Turns or Interstate Ramps. I can accelerate pretty quick in my E92 M3, but most folks seem ready for it. It is when I punch it on a turn or a long on-ramp that I get yelled at as they are squished in the chairs.
Ex-girlfriend used to yell at me, but one day she was really mad with the world and I was driving her to the beach she yelled at me to go faster on the on-ramp.
“Why are we going so slow?! Go faster!!!”
“Aye aye”

At first I was like daaang look at those legs. But it’s probably partially thanks to the fish-eye lens.
